Rules

Clearwater 7’s Tournament Regulations and Information

  1. This is an ASAA-sanctioned event, therefore all players must be registered at the respective school of the team.

  2. The World Rugby Laws for U19s and will apply to this tournament (with some adjustments clarified in coaches' information package).

  3. All games will be 14 minutes  (7-minute halves) in duration with a 1-minute half-time. This will be shortened if your game starts late. Please have your team ready to play at your scheduled times.

  4. Teams will have 3 minutes to clear the field at the conclusion of their game.

  5. All teams are guaranteed a minimum of 4 games.

  6. Trophies and/or Banners will be awarded to the Cup Champions.

  7. NO PETS - Please communicate to players and families to keep pets at home. Many people in a limited amount of space is not a great place to introduce our fur babies.

  8. Please keep the Calgary Rugby Union CLEAN!  Pick up the garbage around you.  The CRU is a World Class facility, let's keep it that way!!!


Tie Breaking Protocols: 

  1. For determining standings after round robin play

    • The 1st tie breaker will be games against each other (head to head result).

    • The 2nd tie breaker will be highest points for and against differential.

    • The 3rd tie breaker will be a fewest points against.

    • The 4th tie breaker will be a coin toss. 

  2. If teams are tied after regulation time during round robin play, the tie will stand. If teams are tied after regulation time in a playoff match, a 3 minute sudden death overtime will be played. If teams are still tied after the sudden death overtime period, one player from each team will be chosen to drop-kick for goal starting from the 10m out directly in front of the posts.  If only one player is successful, their team wins.  If both kickers are successful, they back up 5 meter, continuing the process until only one kicker is successful.


Event Information

Parking:  Please carpool. We have limited parking. Parking Lot north of clubhouse is for busses. Parking at the clubhouse for staff and volunteers. All other vehicles are asked to park on south parking lots.

 

Balls: Please bring your own practice balls for warm-up plus one match ball.

 

Colour Clashes:  In the event that a team’s colour is too close to the opposition’s colours, the team whose school is closest geographically to the CRU will change their playing jerseys to a set provided by the tournament organizers (or wear their jerseys inside out).

 

Concession:  The club house is open and operating for club rugby.  Participants, spectators, coaches, parents of Clearwater Cup teams may NOT consume [and should not be served] alcohol during the tournament.  Food and beverages will be available.

 

Athletic Therapy:  Certified therapists will be on hand to assist with any injuries. They will also be available for taping, but teams will be responsible for their own supplies. 

 

Change Rooms:  Change rooms and washrooms are available. Do not leave belongings in the change rooms , they are more secure on the team bench.

 

Warm Up: Please avoid using endzone for warm up when game play is occurring in that half of the field.
